Shy Bairns.... the collaborative practice of artists, designers and curators...

Since 2016, Shy Bairns have been working together on a responsive programme of zines, exhibitions and workshops.

Interested in the accessibility and interactivity of contemporary art, through their practice aim to create a conversation between exhibition/artwork and viewer.

Considering ideas of identity, Shy Bairns explore the relationship of viewer to work and work to viewer, with projects focusing on the space in-between.

Print runs through the core of their practice, utilising zines, print workshops and installations to interact with others, creating collaborative works. Working with others to create and produce visual publications, print and paper act as a democratic medium. Familiar to everyone and to be handled by everyone, the highly visual paper publications created can then leave the gallery spaces to be taken home afterwards. Extending the exhibition outwards.

Listening to their creative practice I see the importance of creative collaboration. Ideas and thoughts as a project, bringing togetherness, interaction and connection. Learning through experience with others can be a powerful experience to unlock creativity.

SB is made of four people who originally met at their Foundation course in Sunderland....Izzy Kroese, George Gibson, Erin Blamire and Eleanor Haswell.
