Cut and Paste 400 years of Collage
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern Two)
29 June-27 October 2019
Cut and Paste: 400 years of Collage is the first survey exhibition of collage ever to take place in Britain. Collage is often described as a twentieth-century invention, but this show spans a period of more than 400 years and includes more than 250 works.
The exhibition will be of great interest, with a vast variety of approaches to collage ranging from sixteenth-century anatomical 'flap prints' to computer-based images.
Particular interest for me will be the Dada and Surrealist collages by artists such as Kurt Schwitters, Joan Miro, Hannah Hoch and Max Ernst.
NOW
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One)
1 June-22 September 2019
NOW; The series is centred on the major survey of work by Turner Prize nominated Anya Gallaccio; renowned for her installations and sculpture's.
Gallaccio creates temporary works that change over time, using organic materials, including trees, flowers, candles, sand and ice.
The subject is relevant to my ongoing research and interest, with reference to my recent HAD118 Art History Essay on John Ruskin and Robert Smithson, the natural processes of transformation and decay. Working with a range of media and materials, found objects and urban situations; British artist Roger Hiorns will also be exhibiting. The exhibition will be interesting to explore similar themes from a different angle.
